The Story of Fiordaliso << Back

August 1, 1936, opening ceremony of the Berlin Olympics. A young girl pays homage to Adolf Hitler with a bouquet of cornflowers and is immortalized by the cameras as an emblem of the Aryan youth. This historical episode inspired the story told in this novel, in which the little girl is called Ester, is extremely gifted in artistic gymnastics and is a "mischling", that is, the daughter of a German mother and a Jewish father. A scandal, if it were to come to light. A danger for her and her beloved gymnastics teacher, the young and idealistic Linzie. As the daily life of the German Jews crumbles, Esther's parents break up and lose themselves. The girl is entrusted to Linzie so that she can be rescued with a false identity, thanks to her talent as a gymnast. In the weeks that followed, the great story unfolds before their eyes, interwoven with a life made up of fiction, but also of affection, love, talent and indissoluble bonds.
